Slaking of lime is producing of lime paste.
For slaking of lime it is necessary to pour water into a metal case, then a little at a time to add lime, actively mixing a mass.
For slaking of 1 kg. of lime it is necessary to take 2,5 - 3,0 liters of water. The time of slaking is 5 - 10 minutes.
The slaked lime is to be kept up during two days and after that it may be used for masonry and plaster mixtures.
In the process of lime slaking in is necessary to wear protective goggles and gloves.
In the process of lime slaking the temperature reaches 90-1050Ñ.
For lime mixtures preparation they use 3 parts of sand to 1 part of lime paste. This melange is carefully mixed and water is added till getting the working consistence.
For preparation of Bordeaux mixture they use 1 part of lime paste (by weight) to 1 part of blue vitriol The mixture is diluted till working consistence. The end mixture must have blue colour without mechanic impurities. The reaction must be neutral. It can be verified with the help of litmus paper or it is possible to spill a few drops of end product onto a clean plate of carbon metal. No rust can appear.
Attention! Quicklime must be kept in closed packages, protected against moisture penetration. Quicklime should be kept below 30 days, because in the result of air access it looses its' activity.
